Ludlow Racecourse

Its character comes from the combination of long racing heritage, National Hunt focus and a Shropshire countryside setting rather than from scale alone.

The hurdle circuit is about 1 mile 5 furlongs around with a home straight of roughly 3 furlongs. Ludlow uses padded hurdles and publishes hurdle races over 2m, 2m5f and 3m.

The chase circuit is about 1 mile 3 furlongs around. Ludlow uses mobile fences and publishes chase distances including 2m, 2m4f, 3m and 3m1f.

Ludlow describes the chase circuit as a fast circuit and says the flat, relatively short circuit and typically sounder winter ground can contribute to races run at a strong pace. Treat that as course context, not a guarantee about the pace of an individual race.

The course says its underlying soil is approximately 70% gravel and 30% loam, giving it naturally free-draining characteristics. Irrigation is available in dry periods, so the actual going must still be checked for the specific meeting.

A distinctive Ludlow detail is that horses parade anti-clockwise in the parade ring; the racecourse says Ludlow and Goodwood are the two British courses where this happens.

Ludlow says gates normally open two hours before the first race and recommends arriving at least an hour before racing begins. Check the individual fixture in case timings differ.

Children aged 17 and under are normally admitted free when accompanied by an adult, with stated exceptions possible for festival or live-after-racing events.

Ordinary pet dogs are not permitted on racedays and must not be left in cars. Registered assistance dogs are welcome, with advance notice recommended.

Tickets can be bought online or through the racecourse office. E-tickets on a phone can be scanned, so printing is not normally required.

Ludlow currently provides free on-site parking for racegoers.

Designated Blue Badge parking is close to the main entrance. The current accessibility guidance says spaces are limited and should be requested in advance.

The racecourse publishes step-free access to key public areas, accessible viewing including locations close to the winning line, accessible toilets and lift access to hospitality suites. Visitors with specific requirements are encouraged to contact Ludlow at least 48 hours before the raceday where possible.

One carer or personal assistant may receive complimentary admission when accompanying an eligible guest, but this must be arranged in advance and supporting evidence is required under Ludlow's current policy.

Give yourself time to orientate before the first race. Ludlow's own advice is to arrive early enough to explore the course, find food or drink and take in the pre-race atmosphere rather than arriving at the off.

The course is known for a comparatively close spectator experience, but public access to the parade ring, weighing room, pre-parade, saddling, veterinary and other integrity areas is controlled.

There is no general Ludlow raceday dress code. Dress for the weather; Members' and dining areas are described as smart/informal. The grandstand is only partly covered, so weather protection matters on a wet day.

The Racecourse Office currently sells practical and branded items including caps, hats, umbrellas, gilets and silk scarves. Stock should be treated as raceday-dependent rather than guaranteed.

Aim to arrive at least an hour before racing, collect or open a racecard, find the parade-ring and viewing areas, then watch the horses before a race before moving to your chosen viewing position.

Annual racecourse membership runs on a calendar-year basis and includes a members badge, parking and access to the Annual Members Lounge.
